The islands' financial services industry is an integral part of Jersey economy, and many of our young minds are drawn to a career in the finance industry. However, for the first time, the Financial Intelligence Unit was invited to participate in a careers day at Les Quennevais School which we gladly accepted. And given that some of our team are ex-students from the school, who better to speak to the students about their career journeys and what it's like to work for an intelligence agency.
In addition, we appreciate that whilst a career in finance maybe appealing, some students would still like to continue their studying, travel, work life balance and flexible hours which are always available in the private sector. And of course, the FIU provides something that is unique, a career in intelligence which is like no other.
So, it was all systems go at the Les Quennevais School careers fare which saw us talking to all the students who are super inquisitive to find out about the FIU and what we do. Two of our team (Jamie (left) and Annie) are former students, who explained what it takes for students who were interested to find out what it takes (qualifications /grades wise) to join the FIU. It also helped some of the students understand how some of their subjects / courses have a direct link to skills required for a career in intelligence.
We have a throughly enjoyable day and a big thank you to Mollies Cupcakes for the mini FIU branded cupcakes too. They went down a treat!
